Who are we? Where do we come from? What is remembered after we’re gone? These are some of the many questions asked by the artists included in nice;02. nice;02 is the second annual survey of contemporary artists exploring complex personal, political, and social narratives. The exhibition assembles artists from across the nation working in a variety of mediums and concepts who share a curious exploration of the world around us.
This exhibition shows a shift in the artistic consciousness, weaving together personal narratives with social critiques. The majority of the works question the way we live and die, belief systems, political decisions and elections, and an ongoing loss of life, land, and culture. Each artist works with these complex concepts in a unique way; some balance the devastation with detailed technique, conceptual practice, or pageantry. Some works are simple explorations of the everyday, balancing the banal with meditative practices. nice;02 is a powerful survey of intricate narratives in contemporary art.
